Graduate School: Blog Focus

Posted by: David

The blog is changing focus

The mission of my blog will remain the same.  Educate others, while providing a reference for myself.  I am going to  continue working on some hands on stuff quite a bit, but with graduate school fast approaching I also want to start practicing some of what I learn, or showing off what I learn.

What can you expect?

More information than just technology.  I am going to start covering my classes, and what I am learning - despite the immediate relationships to technology.  For example, I want to post a small guide on preparing for, and enrolling in graduate school soon.

What am I doing?

I am enrolled at a regional college and will be studying for my Masters of Science in Information Systems.  I am working full time as well as a Network Support Specialist with a very wide variety of duties (far more than just help desk).  My work has volunteered to offer some assistance with tuition so hopefully this will help jump start my career.

I will be doing the thesis option, as I have always had a small thought about possibly obtaining a Doctorate.  I use the research to keep myself busy at home.  I like to play video games, but I hate myself when I know I could be doing things to better myself and others.  Working on the graduate degree will surely keep me focused.

I am ready to begin!

Hola!

This actually happens...daily.

This actually happens...daily.

Hey everyone, this is my first post and I am very excited to have a place where I can dump all my thoughts and ideas. First you should know I work in IT (obviously) for a small local company.  I took 1.5 years of college and attained some certs.  The easiest way for me to learn new things is by being very hands on (and usually breaking it a few times). I enjoy how everyday has something different, it really keeps my on my toes.

I want to share my thoughts about issues I come across and even my opinion about new (or old) technology. We both dabble in different things, making us a pretty unstoppable combo. I really want to see our site take off and look foward to helping our viewers.

Forum coming…

A few of these in every one..

A few of these in every one..

I am installing a forum to have a backup of the posts we have here and allow for a community type of atmosphere that wordpress comments just can't achieve.  The forums will be how visitors can communicate with each other and discuss topics we have in much more detail than the comments of wordpress will allow.

I am certainly looking forward to the knowledgebase that we will be creating and seeing how effective it just might be.

What is this blog?

Not this kind of Kingpin, but close

Not this kind of Kingpin, but close

This blog is my blog that will elaborate on my IT ideas and experience.  I recently graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in the May of 2009 and I find myself working in IT getting ready for my Master's program next year.  Technology comes easy to me, I understand it really well, really fast and I want to share.

I want to share my ideas and experience to help everyone.  I run into some unique problems at work that I am sure many others run into all of the time, and I am going to share those with you to help you with your life.  I am also going to post my ideas on tech issues - I have many of them.

Perhaps the biggest thing I want to accomplish with this blog is not just provide help for everyone, but I want to keep my interest in technology, and my knowledge of it sharp.  I want to be a consultant one day, and I won't be able to do that if I don't stay on top of my game.  Through doing this blog I plan on being up to date on technology and I also plan on using it to improve my appearance to those that might not know me.

Once you see my ideas, and learn from my experiences, you will know that I am very knowledgeable, and love to learn to educate myself and others on issues that can be faced.  This should be the most fun I've had with web design and content management so far, and I look forward to a long relationship with this blog to better myself and others.
